I started playing Rugby League in 1952 at the age of 15, as a Winger, making the first Junior RL side to tour Australia. Due to injury, I was unable to play competitively, so I decided to become a Referee keeping involved with my love of the game. A few years later I was asked to grade all Auckland Referees which followed on to NZRLRA with the aim of getting our referees into the NRL. Training hard, trying to break into the NRL, we were told "you have nothing we want!. Having moved on, both Phil and I decided to start our venture on Wheelchair Rugby League NZ leading up to our dream of taking a team to the Rugby League World Cup in 2017.
