Waitangi Treaty Grounds

The Treaty Grounds features the Treaty House, the carved Meeting House and the world’s largest ceremonial war canoe.

The Treaty House contains a museum devoted to the Treaty and to life in the house as it was during the time of the signing.

The carved Meeting House (Te Whare Runanga) symbolises the Maori involvement in the signing of the Treaty. It is a national Marae and carvings in the Meeting House depict ancestors from many Maori tribes in New Zealand.

Guided Tours and Cultural performances are available daily and are highly recommended. A visitor centre, gift shop and 2 cafes are situated on the grounds. An introductory movie screens in the visitor centre every 20 minutes.
