A new food venture in Palmerston North means you can support local providers – and you can try your luck at getting a double yolker egg.
The Egg and the Bacon is a startup food business by Sarah Billing and Ton Hogendoorn of West End. They sell egg and bacon rolls with their special mayonnaise – and omelettes with bacon and capsicum, also in a soft roll.
Their ingredients are all locally produced, including eggs from free-range hens and pure NZ-raised bacon.
From time to time, Sarah and Ton can source double yolked eggs (one egg in every thousand is a double yolker) and they have some at the moment. They’ll be available at the Albert Street Market this Saturday and at the Sanson Market on Sunday.
Eating a double yolker egg is said to bring you good luck – and you can increase your chances of getting one in your bun by choosing your own egg – kids love doing it.
