Te Pepe Bike Park - Ruapehu Mountain Bike Club Home

The Te Pepe Bike Park is a purpose built mountain bike park aimed at complementing the existing cycle infrastructure and focus provided by the Mountains To Sea Nga Ara Tuhono and Ohakune Old Coach Road cycle trails at Ohakune Junction.

The project stems from a initiative between Atihau-Whanganui Incorporated and Ohakune 2000 Incorporated and has been built by numerous volunteers from the local community.

Te Pepe (the moth) is the local native Puriri moth that lives in the low mountain ranges of the Tongariro National Park near Ohakune Junction. The shape of the track is inspired by the symmetry of its body and wings.

The Park has broad appeal as it offers a safe, purpose built environment for cyclists to develop riding skills, have fun and keep fit. The main feature is a pump track which provides a series of rollers and berms that can be ridden by anyone with basic bike skills. Riding a pump track helps teach proper cornering techniques, speed control and helps to enhance bike handling skills to prepare riders for trail riding, jumping and competition.
