Takaka Valley FARM STAY

Takaka Valley Farm Stay is exclusive bespoke accommodation nestled in the floor at the head of the Takaka Valley Golden Bay South Island New Zealand. You will be staying in Lord of the Rings and Hobbit country .

The accommodation consists of exclusive and private accommodation of a comfortable self-contained chalet, which sleeps up to 9 people or a king size bed and breakfast in the main farmhouse. We cater for individuals, families and larger groups and if you can’t be bothered to cook and you want to sit back and relax we provide a fully catered service of organic home grown and local sourced produce at very reasonable prices.

You will be staying on a working Red Deer and Angus Cattle Farm along with a small herd of South African Boer Goats. Some of the Red Deer hinds are very tame and you can get up close to experience their majesty.

There are many other animals on the farm for small children to get friendly with.

Experience the unspoiled environment of Middle Earth made famous in the Block Buster film the Lord of the Rings and now to be made even more famous with the filming of The Hobbit in Golden Bay starting in November and December 2011.

Walk on deserted beaches with wild seals. Wander the trials of ancient Beech forests. Explore the caves and see the extinct Moa bones. Take in the breath taking scenery. Catch and eat a salmon from the cleanest water in the world.

What is the best time to visit? Any time even when it is cold and wet in the dead of winter it is still beautiful and a place to behold. Golden Bay is the best climate in New Zealand and we have more sunshine hours than Sydney Australia.


If you want to learn new skills to take away with you we run courses in organic gardening and farming, country kitchen cooking, animal husbandry, self-sufficiency, financial budgeting, trout and sea fishing, hunting and retirement planning.

If you want to go to places where very few get to go we will take you there as we run a personal tour guide service by 4 wheel drive. You get to BBQ on the a pristine beach as the sun goes down.
