St. Martin Vineyard

St. Martin Vineyard on Huangarua Road, Martinborough is the jewel in the crown for Harvest Estate. Its majestic 18-year old Chardonnay comprises two clones - Mendoza and 95 clones, both prized for crafting world-class Chardonnay wines.

Our vineyard site overlooks the Huangarua River. Its atypical Martinborough Terrace soil of about 30-40cm of silt-loam over 30+ metre deep alluvial river gravels provide excellent drainage and easy access for the vineyards roots to descend.

The South Wairarapa rainfall profile averages less than of 800mm per year meaning no irrigation is required. The vineyard enjoys little intrusion from spring frosts.

Pressure from pests and disease is very low as a combination of the low rainfall, high summer & autumnal winds, together with the hot, dry climate we experience each summer.
