Make Up has been around for centuries, otherwise known as “killer cosmetics”. Egyptians underlined the eye with copper, lead sulfide and kohl (lead, soot, fatty matter & manganese). Ancient Greece used white lead – known as “Dead White” to create a pasty white face and red lead for rosey cheeks. In the 16th-18th century people would glue hair from mice to create eyebrows, paint their faces with white lead and vinegar and use mercury paste to remove freckles, which often resulted in death. In the 1930s rat poison was a leading ingredient in eyelash dye. Up to 2007 most Lipsticks contained hazardous amounts of lead, but what’s even scarier is there are still brands out there that still use this toxin.
So what about make up now? Yes, cosmetics have come a very long way but still to this very day nastie’s are hidden in our cosmetics and animal testing is prevalent.

There is an unpleasant side to the cosmetics industry. How can something that brings beauty, be so ugly?

Making honest choices about cosmetics can be beneficial. Cosmetic corporations test on animals to find what are safe levels to be used. Animals are succumbed to pain, torture and death in the name of beauty. Often our naivety, marketing and lack of education is hurting ourselves and animals. I’m not saying its all bad, its not. Just try taking mascara off me and that will be killer beauty.

I’m on a soul search to find and source the purest cosmetics that will be the most beneficial and work in every which way. There’s a list of things that I need in make up, good coverage, long lasting, excellent pigmentation, curable, anti allergen, nurturing, eco, organic, vegan and cruelty free.
