Poolburn Adventure Hub

Since the 1920s the Poolburn Hotel has been the meeting place of the Ida Valley. Nestled in the remote highlands of Central Otago, between Dunedin and the Lakes District, the valley is an adventure mecca. No longer a pub, we now offer lodging and guided activities to adventurers from afar.

What adventures are on offer? Some of our favourites include:

Biking the Poolburn Gorge Tunnels & Viaduct, the highlight of the iconic Rail Trail.

Fishing in the Poolburn Reservoir with a picnic lunch including freshly caught Koura crayfish.

Mountain bike shuttles on the downhill tracks above the historic township of Clyde.

Cross country mountain biking in the rocky terrain of Alexandra or pine forests of Naseby.

Horse riding in the valley, terrain made famous by the Riders of Rohan from The Lord of The Rings movies.

Standup paddleboarding on the beautiful Blue Lake at St Bathans.

Personalized winery tour of the vineyards around Alexandra, home to some classic Central Otago Pinot Noirs.
