Off Broadway

Off Broadway performing arts school is directed by me, Tami Mansfield -- MFA drama and professional actor (SAG, AEA, and AFTRA.) While living in New York City, I did post grad studies at CAT/ CUNY and earned a certificate as a Theatre Teaching Artist. That means I trained in how to use my skills as an actor to reach kids who needed confidence, joy, expression, improved literacy, public speaking, and anger management. I believe art saves lives. It saved mine. The bottom line is this: I love what I do and I do it for love so students will be respected and nurtured to become real actors and real performers. I say "real" as opposed to show offs or divas. Please don't get me wrong, the hams are welcome to train at Off Broadway too. Just please expect that I will gently (and with a lot of humor) get them to channel that need for attention into a genuine respect for acting which means (to me) going after an objective and working endlessly and tirelessly to achieve it -- even in the face of adversity. How do I go about this work? I reflect with the kids constantly. This means after the main activity I ask them what happened to them and what did it have to do with their lives. It's in these answers and in these discussions that we all learn and grow. Simply put: action + reflection = transformation. And confidence. And joy. And skills learned and deepened.
