More about NZ Sailing Trust

The NZ Sailing Trust provides experiences for:

Schools and youth
Through the use of its two vessels Steinlager 2 and Lion New Zealand NZ Sailing Trust hosts primarily youths aboard for one day through to six-day experiences. The NZ Sailing Trust charters the yachts directly to the schools or community group and works with them to achieve NCEA achievement standards, comply with curriculum learning outcomes or work to their specific goals.

Competitive sailing
NZ Sailing Trust competes in local, regional and international sailing events on Steinlager 2 and Lion New Zealand. We encourage the participation of any New Zealander, particularly encouraging youth participation and learning at every opportunity.
E.g. Coastal Classic yacht race, Auckland to Tauranga Yacht Race, Auckland Anniversary Day, Auckland to Fiji Yacht Race.

Group/corporate charter
Both yachts are available for group or corporate charter – options range from 2 hours to a full day on the water, the yachts give groups the opportunity to work as a team to get the yacht sailing and share a unique experience on successful racing yachts. The income raised from these charters help keep the costs for the school charters as low as possible.

The needs it meets
Schools and youth
Education outside of the classroom is an essential part of school life in New Zealand. To extend students learning experiences beyond the classroom, schools need to take advantage of the opportunities offered by the wider community, and the environment. Students learn in a variety of contexts in order to gain the knowledge, skills, attitudes and values require to enjoy a healthy lifestyle; take responsibility for their own safety; form positive and respectful relationships with their peers, their teachers, and the environment; and participate in the creation of safer communities.

Competitive sailing
Opening the participation in competitive sailing on board our famous racing yachts allows people to find reality in experiences that they have otherwise not had the opportunity. Local one-day racing experiences offer people the experience of the thrill, urgency and excitement of racing, and highlights the teamwork
necessary to achieve success.

Group/corporate sailing
The opportunity to charter our yachts with our experienced crew offers groups and companies an experiential group activity.
