Naseby Forest Recreation Area

The Naseby Forest is owned by Ernslaw One Ltd which is a privately owned company that has established forests and other businesses in New Zealand.
The forest was planted on top of the original gold sluicing area and is logged and replanted sustainably.
The Naseby Forest Recreational Area consists of gold mining history sites, mountain bike and walking tracks, swimming and fishing dams, dog sledding tours by arrangement, picnic areas and car parking within the forest.
All recreational areas of the forest are mapped for your convenience and safety, including the mountain bike and walking tracks in association with Mountain Biking Otago. Please see attached maps in our photos or you can enquire at the Naseby Forest Office.
The MT Ida water race runs through the forest, with a track beside it that meanders through the forest. Mountain biking and walking tracks of all levels branch off into the forest which boasts some beautiful scenery for photographers. Picnic or swim in one of the dams or try your luck at catching a trout.
Dog sledding tours are available from The Real Dog Company situated locally.
Events are held in the forest including the MBO 12 hour race, Orienteering events, the Great Naseby Water Race. All events are subject to permission and can be arranged through the Naseby Forest Office.
FOREST CLOSURE: During high fire danger, logging or pest control the forest may be closed for safety. Please respect these closures. Notifications of forest closure will be posted on this page when possible. Safety is our first policy.
Naseby is a "Light No Fires" area and Ernslaw One Ltd hopes you enjoy making use of the Naseby Forest Recreation Area while keeping our forest a "Fire Safe" forest and keep it clean and green by putting all rubbish in bins provided or take it out with you.
