More about Krav Maga Wellington and Self Defence Training - IKMF

Krav Maga: A system of self-defence and physical training first developed for the Israeli army by Imi Lichtenfeld in the 1940s. Krav Maga uses the body’s reflexive responses to threatening situations with heavy emphasis on threat neutralization, simultaneous defensive and offensive manoeuvres, and controlled aggression.

Krav Maga is the most effective self-defense system offered today. It is easily learned and can be implemented quickly and it is accessible to anyone who is interested in learning self-defence techniques in order to protect themselves and their loved ones.

Krav Maga was developed to suit everyone regardless of gender, age, body type, or fitness level. It can be learned and used by anyone who might need it to save their life or to survive an attack while sustaining minimal harm.

In Krav Maga, we encourage students to avoid confrontation at all cost. But if avoiding confrontation is impossible or unsafe, we promote finishing a fight as quickly as possible. Attacks are aimed at the most vulnerable parts of the body and training includes techniques that may even cause severe injury towards the aggressor. The drills that we train in Krav Maga provide maximum safety to students by ensuring that participants use controlled techniques as well as use of protective equipment.
Students learn to defend against all variety of attacks (armed and unarmed), and are taught to counter in the quickest and most efficient way.

Krav Maga training includes:
• Physical training – Krav Maga specific warm ups to prevent injury during training. Blend of exercises low and high intensity exercises to develop endurance and strength.
• Mental training – Resilience training through the use of Krav Maga drills. Use of controlled aggression to maintain awareness of surroundings while dealing with imminent threat and possibly, other attackers.
• Tactical training - Counterattacking as soon as possible (or attacking pre-emptively). Targeting the body's most vulnerable points such as the face, eyes, nose, throat, back of the neck, solar plexus, groin, ribs, knee, foot. Look for help, escape routes, potential threats, and common objects that can be used for self-protection.
• Technique training – Effective striking and defensive techniques. Use of technique to achieve maximum effectiveness and efficiency in order to neutralize the opponent as quickly as possible.

Krav Maga training also covers situational awareness to develop an understanding of one's surroundings, learning to understand the psychology of a street confrontation, and identifying potential threats before an attack occurs. We also cover ways to deal with physical and verbal methods to avoid violence whenever possible.
