More about Kohu Acupuncture- Chinese Medicine

Chinese Medicine is a very ancient practice developed over many centuries by the Chinese. It includes the use of Acupuncture, massage techniques including Tui Na, Guasha, Reflexology, the use of Chinese Herbal Medicine, and meditative breathing techniques including Tai Chi and Qi Gong. Cupping therapy, Electroacupuncture & Moxibustion are other commonly used techniques in our clinic. Healing incorporates Five Element and TCM principles ofChinese Medicine and the Mind - Body Connection.

Our clinic has been designed to incorporate key aspects of chinese medicine such as enabling those receiving treatment to be as close as possible to the natural environment. We are fortunate to be located in the foothills of the beautiful Waitakere Ranges, Auckland's rainforest and water catchment area.

Kohu Acupuncture's philosophy incorporates the idea that time is one of the most precious things a practitioner can give a client, therefore the minimum duration allowed for treatment is 50 minutes - 1 hour. Initial consultations (including treatment) may require 1.5 hours, but more commonly are able to completed in 1 hour. The way we enable this to happen is by e mailing out information and history forms to you to complete prior to the first appointment. This process keeps time taken completing forms to a minimum, reducing fees, keeping treatment costs to an affordable level for many clients. New clients contact Rose directly allowing for any questions to be answered by a qualified practitioner and advice given on treatments. We also firmly believe in the idea that knowledge is power and healthcare practice should be based on the philosophical basis of Te Tiriti O Waitangi - Partnership. Client and Practitoner need to work together to achieve the best possible result. There as an expectation that clients will be as open to the therapeutic relationship as possible and understand that thealing comes from within and may require lifestyle changes.

Education is integrated throughout the treatment process and Rose encourages as many clients as possible to learn acupressure skills to use during pregnancy, labour and in the post birth period. This assists in keeping clients as healthy as possible and recover quickly from this life-changing event. Lifestyle adjustments, nutritional considerations and self care can not be carried out by any one other than the client. Resources such as Hypnobirthing book and CD are available on loan to Kohu Acupuncture clients at no additional charge, as are moxa sticks & instructions. Obstetric TENs machine is available for hire at a minimal charge to Kohu Acupuncture clients also. We have a range of pregnancy and parenting resources available to clients.

Natural materials and colours reflecting the 5 elements have been consciously integrated into the decor of the clinic. Clients are encouraged to relax during treatments. Ideally, appointments are scheduled to allow clients to rest following a treatment in order to maximise the benefits. A range of music is available upon request during acupuncture treament. Children, babies and whanau/family are welcome at the clinic. Breastfeeding (BF) mothers are supported and additional time is allowed for during treatment if BF women bring their babies with them. Many clients prefer to come for treatment without young children as they feel the benefits of treatment are greater when they relax without children present. Other clients relax more when their babies are with them. Individual requirements are met if at all possible.
