Kaikoura Marine Centre & Aquarium

Edit: as a result of the recent earthquake that hit Kaikoura, the aquarium is currently closed for rebuild. We look forward to seeing you again in the near future! :-)

The Kaikoura Marine Aquarium opened on the 15th of December, 2011, and since then we have seen over 50,000 visitors! We have felt a huge amount of support from our community and visitors and this is very much appreciated.

We have an octopus, seahorses, sharks, crayfish, paua, fish, and loads of other exciting treasures to come! We also have two touch tanks and heaps of informational posters about the Kaikoura marine environment.

We came from small beginnings, having an outdoor location on the New Wharf with just a shipping container and a fenced off area. We are now inside a building, which has been a great step up for us to accommodate more people in all types of weather! It is located at the end of the New Wharf.

Our winter hours are 10-4pm Thursday-Monday, and Summer hours are 10-5pm daily.
