Hundalee House

On the north side of the Conway river and two kilometers from state highway one, Hundalee house offers a real New Zealand holiday. The fully furnished three bedroom house (plus sleep out) is nestled on the 920 hectare "Kali Mera" home to one of New Zealands premier Perendale sheep studs. The house comes with exclusive use of the farms bush covered hills for hiking, mountain biking, hunting and camping.

Mount Guardian is the highest point on Kali Mera at 404m (1325 ft) and offers magic 360 degree views especially north to the seaward Kaikoura mountains and peninsula. Wild horses live on Mt Guardian and give you a look at some of the most pure bred horses in the world. Introduced by Charles Upham in the 1950s the horses have been left to roam with no other blood lines introduced since that time.

Limestone stream is an adventure walk with stunning canyons. Leap off waterfalls into plunge pools and swim through the canyons. Discover the timid native eels hiding on the banks of their home pools.

The QE2 trust forest in the Limestone stream valley is home to four massive ancient Matai trees.

Bellbirds (Korimako) Fantail (Piwakawaka) Rifleman (Titipounamu) and the New Zealand Pigeon (Kereru) are all common. As well as these the Hundalee Hills are home to one of the few breeding areas for the New Zealand Falcon (Karearea). It is a small bird of prey easliy distingushed by its piercing screech.

The Conway river is open all year round to trout fishing as well as having plenty of good swimming holes to explore in summer. East from Hundalee house there are beaches north and south of the Conway river. Claverly to the north and Conway Flat to the south are sand and pebble beaches. The beaches will probably be blissfully empty as far as the eye can see.
