Geraldine Community Patrol

The Geraldine Community Patrol Organisation (GDCP) was formed in October 2015 following a public meeting to address a spate of theft related crimes occurring in the town at that time.

From this meeting came the inspiration to form a community patrol, as a way to support the local police force but moreover to bring the community closer together, through demonstrating care and concern for our town and those who feel less confident about their safety, and finally to be a deterrent to those who may seek to undermine the safety and security long enjoyed by residents in this lovely town.

GDCP is affiliated with Community Patrols of New Zealand (CPNZ), operating under its guidance, and also enjoys strong links to the South Canterbury Police, South Canterbury Neighbourhood Support Organisation and the Geraldine Community Board.

The organisation is run by a steering committee and a group of volunteer patrollers who are drawn from all walks of life, in and around the Geraldine district. Both committee and patrol members are police vetted before playing an active part in organisational activities.
