Manufactured in 1961 for James Aviation, Fletcher FU24 c/n87 (registered ZK-CBG) spent more than 35 years working over the hill country of New Zealand. Purchased for parts by Wanganui Aero Work in 1998 the aircraft was stripped of usable components and literally put out to pasture at Wanganui airport. In 2009 the fuselage and centre-wing of the aircraft were gifted to ZJ Yates for preservation by its previous owner. The remains were shifted from their resting place outside the airport boundary to secure storage
