Far North Youth Council

Background

In 2016, the Far North District Council will work with youth across the district to create the very first Far North Youth Council. The Far North Youth Council will involve nine young people aged 12-24 from each Council ward, for a total of 27 members in the full Far North Youth Council.

What we’ve found

Other areas in Aotearoa New Zealand already have youth councils, and surveys run in our area, like the Northland Youth Voices survey from the Ministry of Youth Development, tell us that our young people want to have a say as well.

Agency Support

The Far North District Council has a grant from the Ministry of Youth Development to support the new Youth Council in 2016, including a youth event planned by young people for young people as the very first Youth Council project.
The funding comes from the Youth Development Partnership Fund, used by the Ministry of Youth Development to provide Youth Citizenship projects for young people, supporting youth to participate confidently in their communities.
