More about Erik - Driving Instructor

Hello and welcome. Erik is my name and if you are a beginner driver or an experienced driver looking to refresh your skills then you have come to the right place so lets get started.

I am a professional and qualified driving instructor with the Automobile Association. I have considerable driving experience including 12 years service with New Zealand Police.

I have personally witnessed and experienced the trauma of traffic crashes on New Zealand roads and so my aim is to provide my clients, not only with the skills necessary to pass their tests, but with skills necessary to survive on the road.

I am an approachable person with a relaxed and friendly teaching manner that ensures that you feel comfortable and get the most out of your lessons.

SERVICES PROVIDED

1) Lessons for beginner drivers
2) Intermediate lessons for drivers with some experience
3) Restricted and Full Licence Test training
4) Driving assessments
5) Experienced Driver Refresher Training
6) Vehicle hireage for practice tests.
7) Manual Transmission Training

You can receive lessons in your own vehicle (manual or automatic) however an initial lesson in my vehicle may be appropriate to assess your driving ability.

Lesson times and pickup and drop off locations can be arranged to suit your needs.

MY VEHICLE

I teach in a 2016 Suzuki Swift with manual transmission. This is the AA's vehicle of choice and has proven to be great for driving instruction for both beginners and experienced drivers.

The vehicle has all the modern safety features and is equipped with dual controls for maximum safety resulting in a relaxed driving experience and greater control.

Also, for your safety the vehicle is equipped with a camera that records your lesson. The footage can only be accessed by technicians approved by the AA if required.

I find that manual transmission gives the driver greater control and understanding of vehicle behaviour and dynamics. Driving a manual is easily learnt and can be done whilst learning other driving skills. With dual controls fitted it is even easier to learn.

Pros of learning to drive manual transmission:

1) You can also drive an automatic vehicle
2) Most commercial and tradesperson vehicles are manual.
3) Majority of vehicles in Europe have manual transmission
4) Cheaper to maintain and repair than automatic
5) Better vehicle control and towing capability

Also lets face it, driving an automatic is like driving a golf cart, for the real driving experience manual transmission is where its at.
