Nestled under our local landmark and mountain Whetumatarau. A hidden gem, Moreporks Nest is a locally owned and operated Farm stay with backpackers which also includes a POP stop with park like grounds. It was Previously known on the coast as Te Ruru Kainga.
Moreporks nest is a two story 130 year old colonial home, which was originally situated in Gisborne.

It was occupied by nuns and operated as a school and residence.

We transported the old home over to Te Araroa in 1985 and is now used as a family home, gradually restoring her to her former charm and glory.

It has large tree shaded grounds, a fire pit to sit and relax chatting with the other guest, a large lounge also very popular is relaxing in a bath beneath the stars in our outdoor cast iron bath, where you light your own fire to heat the water.

In the small village is a 4 square and takeaways food bar. Just a few meters up the road you can enjoy a flat white, Public transport from Te Araroa to Gisborne and Te Araroa to Opotiki.
