More about Dubba Dubba

WHAT'S IN A NAME?

Place an order for food in Morocco and the answer will be "dubba dubba". The rough translation is "coming right up". That’s why we’ve adopted the name. We’re about proper quick service and a passion for food.

WHERE IT BEGAN

Dubba Dubba is the brainchild of Adel Aberkane. When Adel was 16 years old, he opened a snack bar in his hometown Asilah on the northern west coast of Morocco. And so began his passion for food.

He left to see the world, handing the shop on to his brothers. The shop is still there, serving locals and the many tourists who flock to the city's annual cultural festival.

Adel worked his way around Europe and through the Nordic countries before coming to New Zealand. He's been here since 1994, and Dubba Dubba is the culmination of his experience and love for food.

For Adel, it was crucial to get the best Moroccan chef for Dubba Dubba. So he went back to Morocco and fetched his youngest brother Ayman to be his main chef.

TOP BACKING

Five years ago, Adel introduced Shane Hausler to his food. The taste blew him away.

Shane has been involved in the Lone Star group for 25 years, including the development of the Joe's Garage brand. He knows potential when he sees, or in this case, tastes it. So Shane has invested in Adel’s vision to help create something fresh in the restaurant industry.

ONE PART EXOTIC, THREE PARTS STREET FOOD

The Dubba Dubba taste is steeped in Moroccan tradition and adapted to local tastebuds. It's that authenticity and the flavours from mild to spicy that sets Dubba Dubba apart.

This isn’t “fast food”. Sure, the food is served fast, but it’s cooked slow and proper. The meat is slow-cooked or grilled to your preference. It's infused with herbs and spices, matched with fresh produce and that Dubba Dubba zing.
