I have been working with horses for over 50 years, from the Northern Territory through to Victoria. I have mustered and broken in on big cattle stations up in the Territory and learnt what I know over in Australia. Over those years I have experienced and tried different methods and have learnt and have gained an understanding of horses. Kindness is the underlying factor. Mental health in a horse is as important as it is in a human and I find that the biggest problem is that too many horses are over-broke. This can take their natural ability away. Others are restricted too much by mechanical devices which unfortunately prevents their growth in which ever discipline you choose. I believe these devices show a lack of knowledge of the person who applies these devices. I prefer to train and break the horse in correctly so that I can use minimal gear and devices on my horses. If this offends you I apologise, but it is purely my opinion. I prefer to work with the person and the horse together so the person understands the method and can apply it to the horse themselves. At times I am not the most popular horse trainer in the country as I will be honest with you about your horse and what needs to be done, which can offend some people, however my priorities lie with the horse's best interests.
