Country Trading Company

We founded Country Trading Co. in 2008 here in Mapua, New Zealand, out of a desire to provide good practical products to people who want to lead more self reliant lives.

Whether you want to grow and preserve your own fruit and vegetables or learn to make cheese and other dairy goods at home, we can provide the things you need.

We don’t shout about being an eco-friendly business but going easy on the planet is a positive spin off from our philosophy. You tend to consume more local unprocessed goods and generate less waste along the way. We live these values and we help others to do the same.

We do our best to source goods locally and the majority of our goods are still produced by artisans and small businesses working with natural materials here in New Zealand. If we do go further afield for something we can’t get here, we do so with an eye for quality and work with reputable suppliers who share our values.

We don’t like excess packaging and we work with suppliers to reduce their use of plastic packaging. We make a lot of the products that we sell and when we design packaging we use recyclable materials and print on 100% recycled paper. We use brown paper bags and newspaper for wrapping most of your orders. If you buy something big we'll wrap it in a Hessian sack.

Over the years these values haven’t changed, we have stuck to our guns and refuse to stock cheap, over-packaged products that serve no practical purpose and break at the first turn. When we develop or select products for Country Trading we use them, learn how they work so we can tell our customers and ensure that they are practical, environmentally friendly and sturdy.
