Auckland Bridge Climb and Bungy was established in 2003, with Henry van Asch, the original Bungy co-founder, bringing his adventurous spirit to Auckland. He opened the World’s first Harbour Bridge Bungy Jump, after taking ownership of the existing Auckland Bridge Climb, New Zealand's only bridge climb.
The motivation to start-up in Auckland took Bungy back to its roots when it was still 'not technically legal'. It began when AJ Hackett first Bungy Jumped off the Harbour Bridge in 1987. He was then arrested and detained by the Maritime Police. Much to the relief of Henry, AJ was released hours later, just in time to depart NZ to compete in the European Speed Skiing circuit.
Sixteen years later the jump pod was suspended underneath the Bridge, an engineering feat, and Bungy Jumping became available to the masses. Bridge Climb also found its place by offering the only walking access over the Auckland Harbour Bridge, an Auckland Icon.
