ArtBox

Artboxes are a unique collection of buildings originally established by Ara Institute of Canterbury (previously CPIT) and other financial partners as a post-quake response to the need for transitional spaces in support of the arts in Christchurch. Previously sited on the corner of Madras and Tuam Streets, the Artbox studio and gallery spaces have been re-situated on the Ara main campus facing Madras Street.
On this new site, they are used for a variety of activities associated with Ara’s Creative Industries department, such as exhibitions, art retail, artists-in-resident studios, collaborative workshop learning spaces, and performances. Large mounted 3m x 3m canvases are fixed to the Artbox walls allowing for digitally printed art work to be rotated around the outside of the building.
As well as being used for Ara's teaching and activities, Ara's Artboxes are available for use in support of the wider arts community, including exhibitions, gatherings, workshops and events. If you would like more information on how to book the Artboxes, contact design@cpit.ac.nz
