More about 1233 DYVS

1233 DYVS Bacolod City “Sweet Voice of Salvation” helps Hiligaynon-speaking listeners understand more about God’s love through a variety of preaching and teaching programs, plus magazine shows fit for all ages.

The strategic location of the station also allows the Gospel programs to be heard as far as Norway, Sweden and other parts of northern Europe. Every now and then, the station receives reception reports from DXers (or those whose hobby is to identify and listen to distant radio signals).

DYVS began operations in 1970. Known then as DYGS, the station was originally located in Buenavista, Guimaras. During its first four years, it experienced an exciting yet challenging ministry. For one, they had constant power shortage and dwindling financial support that was further aggravated by the oil crisis in 1974. On May 5 of that same year, the station shut down its operations despite opposition from the Christian community in the area. In fact, some people thought of its dismantling as a poor testimony of the ministry.

A couple of months, however, the station reopened. There was no turning back as FEBC was determined to relocate the station. Through the generous help of friends and other concerned Christians, a 500-square meter lot was purchased in barangay Pahanocoy, Bacolod City. Broadcast from this permanent site began on September 29, 1974. Six years later, the station upgraded its transmitter from 1-kW to 5-kW. By 2000, they installed a 10-kW equipment.

With the advent of SMS and new technology, listeners have found a way to get in touch with the station more often and more conveniently. The listenership of DYVS grew beyond the bounds of its terrestrial broadcast when the station began its Internet streaming in mid-2000. In addition, by opening its doors to young visitors, such as students in their field trips, DYVS encourages missions awareness that hopefully create a lasting impact in their hearts.
