Althoughwe call ourselves a council, we are a professionally volunteer-run organisation, who work to create and strengthen connections between local cultural communities. We focus on: 1. Safety for women and children in the community, and 2. Creating better settlement outcomes for migrants in Upper Hutt.
We work with many other community organisations around Upper Hutt and the country to make sure we are creating the best possible community environment and networks.
UHM is made up of people from all walks of life: from students, police, teachers, mothers, councillors - and from all over the world as well! This diversity puts us in a unique position to tackle all sorts of issues in local and cultural communities that are often not dealt with.
We are always looking to meet and welcome new people. If you would like to come and have a chat with someone about we do, or about what you do, we have an office at the Trentham Community House on Merton street, and Rebecca is in most weekdays.
Alternatively our monthly meetings are every third Thursday of the month, at 7pm at the Trentham Community House, and is open to all!
