plainlycanvas is all about children's toys, bags and storage options. The website includes sewing patterns and an ‘ideas’ page, as well as products to buy.

plainlycanvas was started by Ali Coleman in 2014. Ali was an Early Childhood teacher in Auckland, New Zealand for many years - working at Barbara's Place Early Childhood Education Centre in Remuera. Since 2011 she has been using cotton canvas to sew toys, bags and storage containers for the children at Barbara's Place - and more recently via plainlycanvas. The children's use of the products, and their endless ideas have provided a fascinating and valued source of inspiration.

As of late 2016, Ali has been working full time on plainlycanvas.

plainlycanvas has some main aims, these are -
- to create products for children that are designed to last and last
- to share ideas and sewing patterns for items which complement the products
- to encourage creativity and resourcefulness
- to help in some way to lessen the stream of children’s toys continuously heading to landfills
