Pintheplay is the brainchild of former professional rugby player and coach Jamie Williams. Jamie has experienced numerous rugby analysis packages during his time as a player and more recently as a coach.

An analyst by nature, Jamie often felt frustrated that the numbers spat out by most rugby analysis packages failed to deliver any insightful information.

Anyone can watch a game and tell you what happened, but Jamie wanted to know more. He wanted the numbers to mean something. He wanted to derive some real value from data in rugby.

By combining data into his own set of metrics he was able to create a higher level of tactical analysis to drive greater individual and team performance. This system included quality statistical data, with insightful performance review, delivered through visual media.

Pintheplay was born.

Jamie has partnered with former professional rugby player and coach Bernie Upton. A former Lock with teams such as the Junior All Blacks, Hurricanes and Chiefs. Bernie provides specialist forwards expertise and analysis. Together they provide comprehensive visual analysis of rugby games, from individual/team statistics to detailed performance reviews.
