Mobile Surgical Services, fully funded by the Ministry of Health and working closely with District Health Boards, deliver two key services to rural New Zealand communities. The first, the mobile surgical bus, offers state-of-the-art surgical services to areas the necessary facilities required for surgery are unavailable. The second service, the Rural Health Professional Development Programme (RHPDP), offers customised, interactive, live-via-satellite training programmes to rural health professionals to allow them access to the professional training and development from which they are otherwise find themselves isolated.
