About Jomajo

Close buddies from high school days, Johanna Maree and Mary Joanna have joined forces. Just like their names, these two girls are quite openly a yin-yang duo. Tall and tiny (no angle is missed), dark hair and red hair (sultry and spicy). Hence the name Jomajo Images.

When working together Johanna and Mary’s combined expertise, energy and dynamics create some exquisite images. They both consider a well lit subject to be essential in order to produce a stunning portrait. Whether your profession, business or service is brick laying, graphic design, plumbing, law, coffee roasting, farming, aviation or real estate, they will spend time getting to know you, your business and your portrait needs and preferences.

You can be assured, it wont be a dull shoot if you choose to assign Jomajo Images. So just relax and enjoy being Johanna & Mary’s subject, and leave the rest to them!

Johanna Macdonald

I'm Johanna, a Christchurch based photographer.

Photography and I met in the Marlborough Sounds during a family holiday when I was 9 years old in the 1990’s. The urge to photograph people and things continued through my teens and into adulthood where I gained a diploma in professional photography in 2003.

Through photographing weddings, events, magazine editorials, documentary stories and advertisements, I have been able to meet many wonderful people and visit various parts of the world, for which I am incredibly grateful!

My style and approach is clean, naturally lit & elegant.

For anyone not used to being in front of a camera, don't worry! My approach is very relaxed, I like to make photo-shoots fun. It is all about capturing the real “you”. There is no need to be any different to how you act in front of you best friend. You will walk away thinking, you could easily do that again, and just wait for the compliments from friends and colleagues to flow!

My strength is the ability to quickly decide on an angle and photograph swiftly. I feel that a moment can be lost quickly, an expression, a look away, a slight smile, a laugh. These are the the moments essential to a beautiful portrait. I will deliver exactly that.

Being a longtime lover of travel and adventure, I am happy to photograph weddings anywhere in New Zealand or abroad.

Mary Wilson

Originally from New Zealand, I have lived in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia for more than 13 years. In late 2013, I moved back to my hometown of Christchurch with my Malaysian husband and 3 year old son, to start a new phase.

I picked up a camera in my early teens. It was my other arm, eye and emotion, and still is. For a good part of the last decade I traveled extensively in Asia working as a fashion model. With a flexible schedule, I was able to keep the camera on my other shoulder and work on various photographic assignments such as weddings, events, fashion and corporate portraits, human and cultural interest, editorial and journalistic coverage.

My style and approach is unassuming, natural and instinctive.

For the past 7 years I have also been closely involved in the running of two audio production studios in Kuala Lumpur. As a co-owner, my role was diverse and demanding. Our studio produced audio for TV commercials and corporate videos, working along side a number of international ad agencies. Here I gained invaluable experience in the advertising industry, as well as awareness of the creative process and collaboration involved in producing a commercial ad. I feel that this process applies to any creative media, including photography.

Having worked as a professional model, my strength would be that I am able to coach models and professionals during portrait shoots in a way that brings out the expressions that photos should. Having lived and worked with people from a range of ethnic and cultural backgrounds, I have the ability to connect with people from all walks easily and make them feel instantly at ease in front of my camera. We will definitely have a few laughs along the way. That’s where great photos come from!

I have never been afraid to experiment whenever given the opportunity and admit I am still rather obsessed with film photography especially playing around with old expired film from time to time. I excitedly anticipate the weird and wacky results.

Its incredible to be back home and I’m looking forward to having such a crazy-beautiful outdoor studio to use here in the epic landscape of the NZ south!
