Caldwell Cottage

Caldwell Cottage is named after the first inhabitant of the house, Private William Caldwell (enlisted 1866) of Fourth Waikato Militia to honour him as the original owner.

He acquired a block and small dwelling on Nixon Street in Hamilton East that we now call Caldwell Cottage. To visit the cottage is to experience a piece of history since this was the original dwelling before the original plot was eventually broken up and more houses were built but this house.

The cottage is cosy, warm and situated in a mature garden complete with several large native trees and native bird song. The location is private and the neighbourhood quiet. This property provides the perfect place to stay for those wanting peace and tranquility. Modern features create comfort while some of the original features such as the original wooden ceiling provide a sense of character.

In addition, Caldwell Cottage is close to several places of interest that Hamilton has to offer. For example, Hamilton Gardens is only a short stroll away as is Hamilton East village. The city centre, offering shopping and eateries is also close. Visitors can also visit the zoo, the river walkways and Hamilton Lake.
