More about Breckon Farms

Ken & Karen Breckon purchased Yarndley Farms on 1st August 2007, from long term friends and owners of the farm, Sandy & Jan Yarndley and renamed the farm Breckon Farms.

Their success as owners of the now retired champion trotter I Can Doosit thrust them into the spotlight as prominent owners and breeders in the New Zealand harness racing industry.

Ken has been involved in the Harness Racing industry since 1995, when he and his late brother Peter set off to Karaka to purchase their first racehorse. The day prior to the sales they read an article in the Herald by Leo George, stating that Megaera would be the filly to buy at Karaka, and decided buying a racehorse would be a good relief from the pressures of work.

Ken Breckon has been passionate about harness racing almost all of his life. His father George, and grandfather Joe Bowyer were racing men. He believes now is the perfect time to invest in harness racing because the industry is thriving and has a bright future.

Karen is on the New Zealand Standardbred Breeders (North Island Branch) Association and like her husband, is deeply passionate about harness racing. They both paid a tribute to the Yarndley's for what they had inherited.

Ken & Karen’s vision for the farm is to not only continue the excellent standards in breeding and raising racehorses that Sandy & Jan have built over the years, but to also make the farm a showplace including post and rail fencing throughout, self sufficiency in irrigation, and in time, state of the art breeding barns, they also intend to build a homestead for family friends and their valued clients to stay and enjoy their hospitality
