More about Wheelie Active

I would like to share a bit of my background with you to give you some insight of the struggles I have faced as a paraplegic.
Before my accident I played Rugby League and captained the Pt Chevalier Buccaneers for 2 seasons. I was also fortunate enough to be picked to play for the representative side the Akarana Falcons twice. I played Rugby Union for Glenfield womens team and won the development competition in 2016. I also won my 1st and only fight boxing but missed out on the opportunity to fight again due to my accident which happened in July last year.
I fell 7m from a balcony and broke my back leaving me with the injury level T3, category Asia A, which basically means I'll never walk again.
To go from being such an active athlete to a bedridden paraplegic really did break my heart as in my mind i knew I could never have that life again. A life I loved and committed myself to wholeheartedly.
I came to a point during my recovery where I didn't know what to do with myself anymore. I had no hope, no goals or aspirations.. I felt like numb and purposeless.
During my stay at the Auckland Spinal Rehabilitation unit, they helped me realise I may have another calling. I saw people in wheelchairs like myself working out, playing sport and even progressing through their rehab and walking again. This was during the time when the Paralympics was on..and I thought to myself, that could be me.
So I made the decision to pick myself up, train and reset.
Personal training was one of my goals before my accident and it made me think. Why should I give up that goal just because I'm in a wheelchair? My whole mindset was still the same from when I was playing sport. Why stop now when I have so much knowledge to share with people that are struggling?
So here I am, studying with the FIT College to bring that dream to life. The journey may be different but the goal remains the same. Teach, develop and motivate people to be the best they can be, beyond all expectations. I would like to build your confidence and break down those barriers and stereotypes that people may have of people with special needs. All I need is you and the courage you have within yourself to want to be a fitter healthier you. I'll be with you all the way to support and encourage you and together I feel we can accomplish amazing things.
Thanks for listening to my story and I hope I can be part of your journey one day, as you will be part of mine. ;)
